Chapter 4: A River Runs Through It

Chapter 4: A River Runs Through It

A visual allegory

The river that courses through our body is our life force, our Chi or in eastern thought prana.  The energetic flow is consistent with our health.  Its channels run through our entire body through our veins giving life to all it touches.  The main river that flows through the chakras as well as the meridian system, is the electrified current that runs up and down our spinal cord.  This current is linked to the central nervous system which regulates the body.  “A spinal nerve is a mixed nerve, which carries motor, sensory, and autonomic signals between the spinal cord and the body. (Wikipedia, 2019)” As seen in item 1, the meridian system runs up and down the spinal column and then out to other areas of the body.

This electrical current is what powers the chakras which lay along the spinal column.  These chakras, which we will discuss in a latter chapter, are the powerhouse for our bodies’ energetic functions and movements.  When a consistent flow of energy moves through each chakra, the individual will have a healthy glow about them as well as keen focus. Thus, the energetic flow affects the mental and physical aspects of the body and vice versa.

  1. Why is this knowledge important ?

In energetic terms, illness derives from an outside source or a pause in energetic flow creating a blockage.  In Nicky Skulli’s book on Alchemical Shamanism, she discusses how when energy presence is removed from an area of the body, the area begins to die.  If the river that flows through our body is blocked or under attack from an outside source, then it can affect other areas of our body and illness will set in.  It is possible using focused visual intent within a meditation to go to the river clear it and remove any unwanted blockages or energetic forms.  When in meditation, and   you remove the energy form or blockage, you are removing its energy thus causing the physical aspect to fade.  In theory, in the case of an infection, the illness will fade and die.  This does not mean you should not visit a doctor for an illness, but this theory to supplement along with any medications needed.  Viewing our inner world as the microcosm and our body as the macrocosm, what you change within effects the outside view of the world; and how you feel in it.

  1. What to expect during meditation ?

The focal starting point will be in the inner temple and will journey to a room that is made of gold and contains a book on a pedestal in the middle.  The book records your journeys and experiences.  You can return energetically to this room to assist in remembering.  From this room will be a door to a hallway that winds around to another doorway opening into a day light filled or moonlit filled world that contains your inner river.  How you see it will be of your own choosing.  I visually saw the canal in an Egyptian manner in that along the banks of the river were columns with torches blazing and the ground was paved with sandstone bricks.  The river should be flowing smoothly otherwise there is unneeded energies slowing it down.

In most if not all of your meditations, I recommended you call on your allies and animal allies to join you.  Often found in the river is a black sludge that causes slowness in the river flow.  That sludge will often take form and try to distract or attack you in some manner.  According to Asenath Mason, in her essay On the Alter of Saturn: Blood in the Rites of Death, she describes this black sludge as Black Bile.  Not the type of bile like excrement but more so energy that is negative in nature.  It is the cause of depression, illness, and negative thought patterns.  The goal is to remove this type of energy or transform it using will.  Often the experience will leave the individual having a lighter and positive sensation all over the body.  This is an energetic alchemical transformation that will manifest physically once completed.

    2. Cast a sacred space or circle around you. (See pre-requisite)
    3. Cleanse the circle with earth, air, fire and water….and smudge stick (white sage or copal)
    4. Have the speaker guide sit outside of the circle while you are safely within it. Make sure to have the speaker wait two minutes at specific moments
    5. Light a candle for ambience as it tends to set a mood
    6. Attempt the Inner Temple Meditation three times before attempting this meditation
    7. Call to your animal allies to join you on this journey

  1. Meditation (Scroll to bottom for audio link)

When ready sit and take some deep breaths in and out.  Focus on the candle and close your eyes.  See a door before you with a chrome silver handle.  When ready, open the door and walk through into your Inner temple lit with candles.  Your animal allies should be in your room waiting for you.  Walk over to the large mirror against the wall.  You notice something about it not seen before.  This time there is a small glowing light from the left side edge of the mirror.  Run your hands along that edge and notice that the mirror gives way to your touch and moves toward you hinged on the wall.  The mirror is a door that when pulled open you see a golden room that is sparkling from the candles that light up its beauty.  (Pause)

Step into this room that now appears to be octagonal in shape.  In the middle of the room is a large pedestal with a large book.  As you glance at the book, you noticed that some of the pages are empty but what is written are your experiences thus far.  Take time to examine the book.  (Pause) This room is your treasury room where you hold your items you gather on your inner journeys as well your experiences found in your book.  You may return to this room to obtain items to take with you on future journeys.  As you look to the northern wall, you notice that there is a door framed into the rock of the wall with a keyhole in the middle.  Next to your book, you see a golden key.  Pick up the key.  As you do so, the key is absorbed into your hand.  (Pause) When needed think of your key and it will appear.  Other than the temple mirror, his will be your way to exit and enter this room.

Step towards the door and place the key into the lock and turn it to your right.  (Pause) As the door unlocks, you here a large set of noises followed by the door opening towards you.  Dust moves towards you as the sealed door is now open.  You see before you a well-lit hallway that has doors on the left and right. Take note of them for further exploration.  Call to your animal allies to follow you and enter the hallway and once all are through, lock the door behind you.  (Pause) Walk down the curving hallway until you see a large daylight lit opening.  (Pause) Walk towards the opening, which has torches lit on each side.  (Pause) As you enter, you see a large riverbank in front of you and on the opposite side of the river.  (Pause) Looking left and right you notice that the bank is farther than what your eyes can see.  What does the riverbank look like to you?  (Pause) What color is the river to you?  (pause) Is your river moving fast or slow?  (Pause) Is it night or day?  (pause) Do you see any entities or beings?  (Pause).  If yes, smile to them and see if they say anything to you.  (Pause)

Step towards your river.  You see on the ground a staff that looks like the Caduceus of Hermes.  Pick it up and dip the end of the staff into the river.  See the river begin to boil and turn red like lava.  (Pause) A swift breeze moves across the river cooling it rapidly.  (Pause) Any entities inside and outside of the river will often make known their presence, which your animal allies will protect you.  All the blockages within your river should then take multiple forms in the guise of a black sludge.  Know you are safe in this. Take the staff of Hermes and point it at the sludge and see it before you first turn silver and then gold. As the mass turns gold, it implodes and the gold flakes across the river. (Pause) As it lands on the river, the waters become bright white and then turns clear blue and flowing at a steady pace.  (Pause) Noticing your river is clear and your current space is peaceful, turn towards your hallway and walk back to your golden room taking with you your new acquired staff.  As you walk back to your inner temple, you notice names on the doors you passed earlier.  Take personal note of anything that stands out. (pause)  Take out your key and unlock your treasury.  As you walk in lock the door behind you and place the newly acquired staff on the eastern wall.  (Pause) Walk over to your journal and notice that a new page contains your experience. (Pause) Use the staff each time you need to clear your river.  When ready walk towards the door to your inner temple and walk in.  Give thanks to your animal allies by hugging or thanking them in your fashion.  (Pause) When ready open your eyes.
